Service Description
Our Self- Advocacy Program designed for youth with disabilities ages who are ready to speak up, stand tall, and step confidently into their future. Through engaging lessons, real-world practice, and peer support, participants gain the tools to understand their rights, communicate their needs, and take charge of their education, work, and life goals. The Self-Advocacy Training Program is a 8-week / 30-hour program administered virtually from 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM on consecutive Saturdays covering three distinct topic areas: Self-awareness, Self-efficacy, and Self-determination. Participants must have access to a computer or laptop with video capability and reliable Wi-Fi / internet. Tablets or phones are not recommended forms of participation as may not allow completion of the required activities and documents required to insure timely payment upon program completion. Incentive: For participation in the program participants will receive an incentive of a $150 Visa Gift Card paid at the end of the 8 week program. Incentive is earned at a rate of $50 for every 10 hours completed. Failure to meet the entire 30 hour requirement will result in prorated incentive. No other increments shall be paid unless arrangements to make up hours are arranged and completed. Requests for such accommodation will be considered on a case by case basis. For Example: 30 hours = $150 | 20 hours = $100 | 10 Hours = $50 Eligibility: Participants in these services may be potentially eligible or eligible. Potentially eligible participants must meet the definition of a Student with a Disability as defined in Part B of the Individual with Disabilities Act, 34 C.F.R., § 300.8, and the Workforce Innovation and Opportunities Act WIOA. Criteria: • Completed VR referral form • Must be between the ages of 14 and 21 years old; • Must be enrolled in a formal education program (secondary or postsecondary); and • Must have a documented disability (IEP, IPE, 504 Plan, or other acceptable documentation of the disability) Make sure you complete referral form to secure your spot.
